EPICT - The European Pedagogical ICT Licence is a comprehensive, flexible and effective in-service training programme, introducing a European quality standard for the continued professional development of teachers in the pedagogical integration of ICT in education. The EPICT syllabus for Ireland is also mapped to the NCCA ICT Framework and supports teachers in embedding ICT in their teaching across curriculum subjects.
EPICT - More than just ICT Skills
EPICT partners believe that training and development of ICT skills is only effective when considered alongside methods of pedagogical integration. The two must be considered in tandem in order to successfully embed technology within teaching practice. The EPICT Licence is a course concept with a collegiate approach to learning, encouraging close collaboration through team-based activities while helping individual teachers develop the competences and capabilities required to embed ICT in their planning for day-to-day learning scenarios. The EPICT product offers content, organisation, communication, facilitation, support and professional accreditation.
How is EPICT Different?
EPICT is a European programme that is well-documented, tested, evaluated and in operation in seven European countries is without parallel in the area of in-service teachers? professional development in pedagogical ICT integration. Each national version is localised to reflect regional differences in curriculum and assessment. In Ireland EPICT modules are mapped to the NCCA ICT Framework.
The EPICT licence was specifically designed for the needs of teaching. It is professional development for teachers, developed by lead educators within educational training institutions and delivered by the same. All themes of the course have a pedagogical rationale and participants work with ICT skills related to these themes. The methods comprise problem-based learning, team-based activities, peer teaching and critical response.
During the licence, participants are exposed to many and varied learning technologies. Expert practitioners and advisory groups ensure that the licence is responsive to the latest classroom developments.
Communication
Study Groups are an integral part of the course process and are formed in order to facilitate peer-to-peer support and foster team working practice. Research shows that these teams continue to exist post-course and provide a valuable long-term resource to education establishments.
All course participants have access to a Virtual Learning Environment with their own personal account. During the course, communication with facilitators and fellow participants is supported here. All participants also become members of the nationwide EPICT Discussion Forum.
